. . . your local charity helping to support the elderly in their own homes

Age Concern Banstead has been a part of the lives of many people in this area for over 50 years.

As far as we can ascertain the charity started life in late 1950's and was called the "Banstead Council of Social Service and Old Peoples' Welfare Council".

Local government reorganisation and the resulting joing together of Reigate and Banstead to form one council in 1975 resulted in the charity changing its name to "Banstead Old People's Welfare Council (Age Concern)" and the name was changed to the much more straightforward Age Concern Banstead on the 30th November 1988.

At the time there were many Age Concern organistions operating in the UK, all of which were independant of one another but had the common aim of helping older people and providing a campaigning voice.

Day Centre

Our day centre at Chavecroft was set up in the 1960's at the request of the Banstead Urban District Council and the fortnightly lunch club continues to this day.

Originally we had an office in the old Council House in Banstead but with the construction of the Banstead Centre this office was moved to the new building and we shared it with the Meals on Wheels organiser. We moved to our present office when the Civic Centre was built.

Friend of Age UK

In February 2009 Age Concern and Help the Aged charities combined to become Age UK. Individual Age Concern organisations could remain independant or become associated in one of several ways with Age UK.

In September 2012 the membership of Age Concern Banstead decided to remain independant and the trustees subsequently decided to become a "Friend" of Age UK. This means that we remain independant but have close ties to Age UK.
